The victim L Kalimuthu of Vadakupatti near Arupukottai in Virudunagar district joined work at a spinning mill in Pallapalayam with P Ragunathan of Thiruvidaimarudur in Thanjavur district, a few days ago.
Inquiry conducted by the Sulur police revealed that the duo had got Rs 21,000 on Saturday evening and had gone out for a drink. But the two did not return to their place of stay that night. On Sunday morning, Sulur police found the body of Kalimuthu on a piece of vacant land on the way to Kadukuttai near Kannampalayam.
He had suffered stone injuries and his face was burnt using petrol and seemai karuvelam. Since Ragunathan has been at large for long, the police suspected that he could have murdered Kalimuthu. The victim’s body has been taken to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital where an autopsy would be performed on Monday.
It is suspected that the murder could have been committed over a drunken brawl. The police said that they were trying to track the suspect using his mobile number and find out the reason for murder.
