Cancer afflicted girl dies in Ooty mishap

A 14-year-old girl, who reportedly suffered from cancer, slipped from a slide and died of head injuries at the Government Botanical Garden in Udhagamandalam on Tuesday morning.

The girl was declared dead on arrival at the government hospital in Udhagamandalam. Police sources said that the victim Hassina Banu (14) from Chamarajanagar District in Karnataka visited Udhagamandalam with her family. She was accompanied by her father A Syed Habeeb (41), mother Rosan Banu (38), sister Hassina Banu and brothers Syed Assid (12) and Shareed (10) along with seven other relatives to attend a wedding in Mettupalayam. 

“While returning from Mettupalayam to Karnataka, the family took a break at Udhagamandalam. The girl, her brothers and cousins were playing near the Italian Garden in the Botanical Garden when the girl slipped from a slide and suffered internal injuries in the head,” Ooty Town inspector S Vinayagam said. Ooty Town police have registered a case under section 174 (accidental fall) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. 

After the post-mortem, the girl’s body was handed over to the family, who returned to Karnataka.
