Thangkabalu, who was in Pudukkottai on Tuesday on a personal visit, said, “To strengthen the party, the state leaders should accept the concept of a single command and respect the views of the party workers at all levels.”

Calling the split in AIADMK as a purely intra-party issue, he urged the ruling group to fulfil the promises made to the people during the 2016 election. He hailed the government for taking over sand mining operations and sales. He suggested that the state could sell sand online to ensure transparency.

The senior Congress leader also urged the government to improve the quality of education, so that it would help students to clear competitive examinations. He condemned the harassment meted out to the NEET aspirants.

Similarly, he appealed to the government not to open TASMAC outlets in residential areas. He also requested that cases should not be registered against residents, who opposed the relocation of the liquor outlets.
