Tamil Nadu Agricultural University begins online applications from May 12

Online sale of applications for undergraduate courses offered by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and its 35 constituent colleges and affiliated private colleges will begin on May 12.

Vice chancellor of the university K Ramasamy said the university offers 13 under graduate courses which include six science programmes and seven technology programmes. 

The total of 2,820 seats for which the counselling would be held includes 2,515 for the science programmes and 305 for technology programmes. “The varsity has formed two committees to monitor the standard of 21 private colleges affiliated to the university,” he said. 

“The university and its colleges will observe Open Day on May 15 (Monday), when students along with their parents can walk into any of the institutions, check their laboratory and classrooms, syllabus and get to know more about the institution before applying for the courses offered by them,” he added. 

Ramasamy said that they had received around 18,000 applications in 2013. It increased to 22,000 in 2015 and 39,000 last year. “This year we expect it to go higher. There is a marginal increase in the number of seats for various courses from 10 to 15 per cent based on the demand,” he said.

He recalled that all the seats got filled last year.

“In this academic year we are planning to increase the fees for various courses by 25 to 30 per cent,” the VC said and added that even after the hike the fees would be much less than the fees fixed by the government for the engineering and other professional courses. 

Sale of applications will begin online on May 12 (Friday). The last date for submission of filled in application forms online is June 4. Rank list will be published on June 10. Counselling will begin with special reservation category for the 32 seats set aside for children of ex-servicemen (8), descendants of freedom fighters (1), eminent sports persons (5) and for differently abled persons (18 seats).

This will be followed by the first phase of counselling between June 19 and 24. 

Counselling for vocational stream students (40 seats) will be held on June 28; for NRI and industry sponsorship quota it will be held on June 30. The second phase of counselling will be held from July 12 to 15, after which registration for the first semester will begin on July 24. If required, there will be a third phase of counselling between August 8 and 12.
