7 tourists killed in accident near Kulithalai

Seven persons were killed and four others were injured, when the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling collided head on with a lorry coming in the opposite lane at K Pettai village near Kulithalai on the Tiruchy-Karur National Highway on Saturday morning.

According to police three families were travelling in the vehicle. One of the families was from Hyderabad, while the other two were from Kasargode in Kerala. They had come for the wedding of Alwin and Preema (25) at Kasargode on May 6. 

After the wedding, they visited Velankanni and were returning to Kasargode when the tragic accident took place. While Benjamin died in the accident, his wife escaped with injuries TK Rajasekaran, Karur SP, told DTNext that the family had started from Velankanni and while they were crossing Kulithalai at 6.50 am the right rear tyre burst. The driver lost control of the vehicle. It ran into the opposite lane, came to a halt after colliding with a truck.
