Districts post good grades

This is way ahead of Virudhunagar which has come second with 104 schools recording a 100 per cent pass. However, the overall performance of schools in Coimbatore that marginally dropped from 94.36 per cent in 2015 to 94.15 per cent last year has improved to 95.83 per cent this year. 

The number of schools in Western Tamil Nadu that secured 100 per cent pass in the Class 12 Board exams stood at 33.9 percent this year. Of the 1,628 schools of this region from which students appeared for the Board exams held in March, 552 schools recorded the 100 per cent pass figures. This included 92 government schools. Seven of the total eight districts in this region have a pass percentage above 90 per cent, including three above 96 per cent. 

Tirupur district recorded the highest percentage (47.09 per cent) 89 of the total of 189 schools securing the 100 per cent pass figures. Tirupur district has seen improvement in the overall pass percentage from 2015. The district’s pass percentage that was 94.31 in 2015 increased to 95.20 in 2016 and to 96.05 per cent this year. 

This is the third year in succession for Erode district to record an overall pass percentage this is more than 96 per cent. The district has secured 96.69 per cent, which is a drop from the 96.92 per cent last year. In 2015 Erode district’s pass percentage was 96.06. The district also boasts of the highest pass percentage among government schools with 94.75. This is also the  third highest pass percentage among government schools in the state, only next to Virudhunagar (95.97) and Ramanathapuram (95.39). Education department officials claimed that competition with private schools and special efforts by government school teachers helped their students perform better than government school students in other districts. 

The pass percentage in The Nilgiris has increased for the second year in succession from 86.74 per cent in 2015 to 91.29 per cent in 2016 to 92.06  per cent this year. Krishnagiri was the only district in this region that recorded an overall pass percentage below 90 per cent. Though this district recorded a pass percentage of only 88.02, it 2.03 per cent more than the 85.99 per cent last year.
