From July 28, four important destinations such as Rameswaram, Kanniyakumari, Kodaikanal and Munnar would be serviced by the ‘Vayujet,’ said Murugaperumal, technical director of Vayuputhra Airways, at a press meet in Madurai on Saturday evening. The chartered helicopter services would be operated from Madurai International Airport and seven people could travel in a helicopter at a time. Each trip would cost Rs 1 lakh, he added.

Chartered flight services would also be operated from Madurai to Bengaluru, Chennai, Puducherry and Tirupathi, he informed. While the chartered flight service to Bengaluru and Puducherry would cost Rs 5,000 per head, the trip to Tirupathi would cost Rs 27,000 per head. The package includes roundtrip flight charges, darshan and food. The service to Tirupathi would commence at midnight and the flight would return to Madurai by 8 30 am in the morning, he added.

Unlike the regular flight services, the proposed move would target businessmen and those who would like to enjoy a trip in the skies. The travel plan would also include aerial sightseeing of Madurai city, he said and added, “It will be an extraordinary sight.”

The firm plans to use rented flights and helicopters initially and after three or four months, it plans to use its own fleet. “Depending on the patronage, the travel cost would be brought down significantly,” noted Murugaperumal.
