Kudimaramath scheme remains a non-starter

With the state staring at one of the worst droughts ever, the much-lauded Kudimaramath scheme announced by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy to revive tanks and other water bodies by using farmers benefiting from the water bodies has turned out to be a non-starter in most districts.

Several farmers’ associations blame the Public Works Department authorities for not roping them in the renovation works and instead, working with politicians and certain influential locals as in the past. 

They allege that in many districts, PWD has not even formed a water users’ committee which is the first step in implementing Kudimaramath. However, senior PWD officials claimed that they were cooperating with farmers.
