The staff submitted a petition to the collector stating that shop 2219 at Kanuvai, shop 2220 at KNG Pudur, shop 1685 at Gounder Mill and shop 2294 at Pollachi were targeted in Coimbatore district recently. Expressing fear to work in the outlets, the employees said that they have been left with no other option, but to down the shutters to protect themselves.
“What is the point in coming to work when there is no safety for us?” district secretary of CITU’s TASAMC employees association asked. The employees said that they are afraid to go to work due to increasing number of violent attacks on shops, employees and bars.
The trade union representatives said the collector and TASMAC officials have assured to provide protection to them. However, they said they would hand over the keys of the shops if such attacks continued.
