“During searches on April 7 last, some materials, including incriminating documents and some valuables warranting further examination were tagged for scrutiny at a later date in tune with tax laws. Such materials were put under prohibitory orders and placed on the premises connected to Vijaya Baskar.

The IT sleuths examined such materials, including documents placed by them in multiple premises under prohibitory orders, Income Tax department sources told.

The examination signifies search and further evaluatory procedures getting to the completion stage, including finalisation of panchnamas wherever warranted. Also, prohibitory orders were relaxed at that stage and documents and valuables not required for further scrutiny were given back.

The IT department had seized Rs 5.5 crore cash after searches at 50 locations connected to Vijaya Baskar and his associates in April. Incriminating documents were allegedly seized and it was also found that about Rs 89 crore was routed to bypoll-bound R K Nagar. The by-election was subsequently rescinded by the Election Commission following largescale complaints of bribing of voters.
