Charging that the State government failed in providing adequate compensation for the farmers, who were affected by drought especially in the delta districts, GK Vasan, president of Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) urged the government to re-survey the impact of drought and also take into count cases of farmers’ suicide and disburse adequate compensation.

Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, he said, the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), which was a long pending demand of delta farmers, should be constituted immediately to avoid problems during drought situation in the future. The The Assembly should be convened to discuss the problems plaguing the State such as drinking water scarcity due to monsoon failure and to find out ways to get necessary relief from the Centre.

Vasan also sought the two AIADMK factions, led by the current chief minister Edappadi K Palanisamy and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, to unite for the sake of better administration in the State. “If the factions of ruling party fail to unite, people will not stand together with the State government”, he cautioned.

The TMC president also condemned the Central government for failing to waive off agriculture loans that farmers have obtained from various nationalised banks across the State.
