Around 10,25,909 candidates, out of whom 9,82,097 appeared through schools, wrote the Class 10 board exams that were held between March 8 and 30. There were no rankings or state toppers following the State government’s decision to do away with the system.
“The rise in the pass percentage was expected as it usually goes up by 0.5 % every year,” educationalist S Somasundaram said. Around 4,72,948 (out of 4,91,226) girls and 4,54,212 (out of 4,90,870) boys passed.
At least 5,059 schools (2,232 Higher Secondary Schools and 2,827 High Schools) obtained 100% pass percentage. Among government schools, 385 Higher Secondary Schools and 1,172 government Higher Secondary Schools recorded 100 % pass percentage. There are no centums in English this time, compared to 51 last year.
The highest number of centums are in social science, with 61,115 achieving the perfect score. Sixty nine students scored cent percent in languages, 13,759 in Mathematics and 17,481 in Science. Virudhunagar had the highest pass percentage (98.55%) out of the 33 districts, followed by Kanniyakumari (98.17%) and Ramanathapuram (98.16%). Results were sent directly to the students. However, unlike Class 12, there would be no re-evaluation in Class 10. “Students can only get the total marks re-checked,” S Somasundaram said.
‘Transgender’ gaffe leaves student in tears
COIMBATORE: Despite scoring 450 out of 500 in the SSLC Board exams, a teenager from Neerkundhi village in Dharmapuri district was in tears as she was wrongly categorised as ‘transgender’. On Friday, school officials had announced that a transgender from Dharmapuri scored 90%. The girl who studied at the Pennagaram Government Higher Secondary School for Girls was shocked after media persons approached her for an interview. Chief Education Officer of Dharmapuri District M. Ramasamy said an enquiry would be held and a report sent to Chennai head office.
