The student, identified as Sasikumar, had studied in the Government Higher Secondary School at Pamban. Beating all the odds, in his life he had scored a whooping 494 marks which is uncommon among government school students.

He had also scored three centums in Science, Social Science and Mathematics, apart from 98 and 96 in English and Tamil respectively. He attributed his success to his teachers and friends.

Talking to the media, he said that although he had expected to get school first, he himself did not expect such high marks. He had studied under tough situations and he did not get much time ,unlike his friends.

His father had abandoned him and only his mother was the sole bread winner, who sold idlis in a roadside shop. He recalled how he used to help her in the nights in the shop and then turn to his books, to study in the available time. His friends had helped him a lot in his education which had eased pressure to a larger extent said Sasikumar.
