As monsoon failed in 2016, many farmers committed suicide and the people, unable to get drinking water, have been protesting in various parts of the state.
To tackle the crisis, the government and ministers have been seeking divine intervention. They have been offering special prayers in different temples across the state for rains.
On Monday, Co-operatives Minister Sellur K Raju offered special prayers at Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai. He had a darshan of Meenakshi Amman and gone to the Golden Lotus pond to perform some rituals praying for rains.
However, minor tension prevailed at Ramanathaswamy Temple on Monday as the IT Minister Manikandan, who was scheduled to offer prayers in the temple, turned up late for the ritual. It was planned at 9 am and the temple officials waited till 11 am for the Minister. Miffed by his delay, the officials walked out when Manikandan started performing the rituals.
