CM inaugurates new building of printing department

Buildings for the Department of Stationery and Printing estimated at Rs 21.77 crore and a book binding machine valued at Rs 60 lakh were declared open by the Chief Minister. The new building was announced by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the Assembly on July 14, 2014, following a fire that had destroyed equipment and machinery in the government printing press in October 2013. Jayalalithaa had announced that 84,500 sq ft building on 5 acres of land would be rebuilt and the machinery replaced without affecting the 754 employees. 

The Chief Minister also inaugurated fish landing centres and buildings for the Animal Husbandry Department at a cost of Rs 36.31 crore. The buildings included a Rs 9.90 crore fish landing centre at Thangachimadam in Ramanathapuram district, veterinary dispensaries at Erwadi, Tiruvottiyur and Chozandur estimated at Rs 63 lakh and a Rs 58 lakh building for livestock upgradation and fodder improvement, operation theatres, inspection chambers and treatment rooms at the vet hospitals in Namakkal, Pudukkottai, Thoothukudi, Tiruvannamalai and Tirunelveli, all totalling Rs 5.94 crore.

He also declared open a Rs 61 lakh livestock diseases investigation centre at Karur, Rs 78 lakh fish landing site at Nagapattinam and fish farms costing Rs 15.10 crore totally in Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Theni and Tirunelveli districts. 

Similarly, buildings for sub-registrars’ offices estimated at Rs 1.86 crore in total were inaugurated in Tirunelveli, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts. The government has in the last five and a half years opened new buildings for 45 sub registrars’ offices at a cost of Rs 26.91 crore, while buildings for another 19 offices are under construction at a cost of Rs 12 crore, the release said.

Animal Husbandry Minister P Balakrishna Reddy and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar were present during the inauguration, the release added.

The Korean translation of the world renowned Thirukkural was released by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy on Tuesday. Korean Consul General in Chennai Hyung Tae Kim received the first copy from him. The translation was part of a project undertaken by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa after announcing this under Rule 110 in the Assembly on September 29, 2015.  Jayalalithaa had then sanctioned Rs 36 lakh for the project. The translation work was undertaken by the World Tamil Research Centre. 

Speaking on the occasion, Hyung Tae Kim said, “I am very honoured to receive the Thirukkural’s first print in the Korean language. I know the book has a 2000-year history. The Korean people will relish this invaluable book of wisdom.” He thanked the government for the translation. Finance Minister D Jayakumar, IT Minister Kadambur Raju, HR & CE Minister Sevoor S Ramachandran were present.
