Hunter dies as gun goes off accidentally

A 45-year-old man, who had gone for hunting, was killed when his muzzleloader gun got triggered accidentally while in the hands of his aide at Kannivadi forest area near Oddanchatram in Dindigul district.

Sources said that the incident happened on Wednesday night when Pichaimuthu, a resident of Kuyavanayakanpatti near Kannivadi, had gone for hunting along with his aide Sakthivel. Pichaimuthu, used to hunt hare, wild cat and other animals regularly in Kannivadi forest area.

On Wednesday night, Pichaimuthu ventured into the forest with his muzzleloader gun. However, he did obtain a licence for the gun as it was an outdated model. 

When the duo was targeting a hare, Pichaimuthu passed on the gun to Sakthivel so that he could fire at the animal. When Sakthivel received the gun he accidentally hit the trigger and the gun went off injuring Pichaimuthu in his abdomen and killing him on the spot. 

On information, Oddanchatram police rushed to the spot, recovered the body of Pichaimuthu and it sent to the Oddanchatram GH. Sakthivel was secured for investigation. Further investigations are on.
