Delayed CBSE results may pose hurdles to students in getting seats

The delay in declaration of results for CBSE Class 12 has left students and parents worried as the state board had declared its results way ahead on May 12 and college admissions are under way. The inordinate delay has only sent them into a panic mode as the engineering counselling dates are nearing.

Students have reached out to Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Twitter sharing their concerns. Himanshu Singh‏ tweeted, “#CbseResults2017 Totally confused with result announcement ! No Official announcement. This is another level of carelessness by CBSE.” Syamantak Sen posted, “How will they be out on time when it has already been delayed.”

Students in Chennai are getting restless as their friends (completed Class 12 through state board) have an edge over them in planning their college admissions. “The last date for online registration for engineering admissions is May 31. Also, by June 3, we are expected to submit the filled-in application form with our detailed marksheet. May has already come to an end and we are still clueless. My friends from State Board have already predicted the cut-off using the last year’s list. We, on the other hand, are clueless,” said 17-year-old Prakash Kumar.

Parents too are worried. “Most of the Arts & Science colleges go by the first-come-first-serve basis. “My daughter wants to do B. Com and there is already a cut-throat competition to get into top colleges,” said Sathish Kumar.

The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) officials have been receiving calls asking if the last date to fill up the examination form could be extended. “As of now, the dates remain the same and there is no extension of the deadline,” informed a TNEA official.
