Members of the AIADMK and AINRC alleged that students faced hardships owing to lack of proper approach in deciding the list of candidates for medical courses.
Ruling Congress MLAs and a section of Ministers took strong exception to the allegations of the opposition while Speaker V Vaithilingam ordered to switch off all the microphones of the opposition.
Earlier, the AIADMK (Amma) legislature party leader A Anbalagan sought clarification from the government on the number of students selected for PG courses in the colleges through counselling held on different dates in the CENTAC, a body authorised for selection of the candidates. Anbalagan contended that the territorial government had committed a blunder of conducting the counselling without fixing the fees first. He also alleged that there was an attempt to divert the unfilled seats to management quota of the colleges.
Refuting the allegations, Chief Minister Narayanasamy said he had already apprised the Union Health Minister of the situation and asked the opposition to speak with sufficient evidence to prove any irregularity in the admission process.
Narayanasamy told the House that he would present a detailed report tomorrow as to how many students were selected along with other details relating to admissions.
