Courtallam season in full action as SW monsoon gets active over Kerala

As the rainfall that occurs during the Southwest monsoon season is the primary source of water for the Courtallam falls, the season commences right after the first showers are witnessed in the Western Ghats. As a result of good rainfall, the region has been experiencing since Thursday, there was sufficient water flow in all the waterfalls - main falls, old falls, five falls, puli falls and others in Courtallam. 

Meanwhile, decent rain was witnessed in catchment areas such as Papanasam, Servalaru, Kundaru, Adavinainar and Sengottai in Tirunelveli district  and in areas bordering Western ghats. This led to the increased water flow to the dams in and around Tirunelveli district. 

The first phase of Courtallam season would extend for three months, till August. After a pause of two months the season would commence again in late November during the Northeast monsoon season. However, tourists visit the falls in large numbers only during the first phase as the water in the falls comes down after the onset of the Northeast monsoon.  

Courtallam falls, called the ‘Spa of South India’, is a sough-after tourist destinations in the south. Courtallam season commences after the summer vacation yet a large number of tourists visit the falls to witness the joy of taking bath in the waterfalls.
