MAD Peravai to submit 25K affidavits to Election Commision

In what could turn out to be “confusion worse confounded”, representatives of the MAD Peravai plan to submit nearly 25,000 affidavits to the election commission (EC) on Thursday seeking to be endorsed as the real AIADMK, according to senior Peravai leader and former AIADMK minister K Pandurangan.

“We wrote to the election commission a month ago seeking an appointment for this purpose,” Pandurangan told DTNext. But as there was no response from the election commission, “we had also sent three reminders to which also the Peravai did not get a reply,” he added.

Hence, the Pervai’s Madurai functionary and advocate Pasumpon Pandian and former MLA Saraswathy have decided to visit the election commission office in person on Thursday to highlight all major issues, sources revealed.

“The Peravai has collected 25,000 affidavits till date, each signed by the cadre on a Rs 20 stamp paper and work is underway to collect more of the same,” Pandurangan added. The Pervai, similar to warring AIADMK factions, seeks to get the AIADMK name and ‘Two Leaves’ symbol, which have been frozen by the EC.

They also plan to request the EC to help the Peravai conduct organisational elections with the help of a sitting or retired judge to ensure transparency, sources revealed. Similarly, another request to the EC would be to allow the Peravai to use the AIADMK name temporarily till the EC comes to a conclusion as to which faction is the real party.
