Expect NEETI by 2019, says AICTE chairman

It is contrary to the earlier statement by the Centre that NEETI will be held from the next academic year (2018-19).

Sahasrabudhe was distributing  degree certificates to graduates of a private engineering college on Monday. He informed that the views of only a few States on NEETI were got sand that they would soon get opinions of others too. 

Stating that there are apprehensions by a few States that their curriculum is not at par with the CBSE, he said that they have suggested to those states to update their curriculum. “Single entrance exam and exit exam is on the agenda. But everyone should be on board,” he added. 

However, he said that even when NEETI is conducted the admission procedure followed by the respective States in terms of reservation and other criterion will not change. “The seats in a State will be filled by students from that State,” he said. The apex body is also planning to change the nature of question paper, he informed.

Preparing faculty 

To improve quality of teaching in technical education institutions, AICTE has decided to introduce faculty induction programme. Only those clearing it will be allowed to work as teachers, the AICTE chairman said. Sahasrabudhe said that teachers may be good in their subject but they need to know the teaching pedagogy. 

For this, teachers will be taught to make the subjects interesting for students. While the training will focus on the new recruits initially, the existing faculty will also be trained. This 4-6 week programme will begin in a couple of months. 

AICTE will also introduce students' induction programme. He said that in this 6-week programme, there will be no regular class room physics, chemistry or engineering. The AICTE chairman said it will be a ‘game changer’ where students will be posed with problems faced by the nation and society, encouraged to discuss and come out with a solution. He said that this will help build the confidence of students.
