To a question raised by DMK MLA I Periyasamy, during the debate on demands for grants to Industries Department in the Assembly, as to why the government had failed to capitalise on Sundar Pichai’s visit to Chennai, the minister claimed that he had already struck a personal rapport with him. He said, “I have been in touch with the CEO of Google and holding talks with him personally as far as setting up a Google branch in the state is concerned.”

Fisheries and Finance Minister D Jayakumar, who intervened, said, “It is a fact that late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had met the co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates and technical experts of Sun Microsystem. Furthermore, the AIADMK government never ignores experts and scientists.”  The minister’s reply drew applause from the MLAs of AIADMK.
