Grant parole to Perarivalan, Stalin urges government
A day after requests from ruling party allies to raise the parole denial issue of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict AG Perarivalan alias Arivu, Leader of Opposition MK Stalin wondered as to why the state was unwilling to release him on parole when Maharashtra government could grant parole to actor Sanjay Dutt.

The DMK working president, who raised the issue during ‘zero hour,’ observed that the state had rejected the parole of Arivu. “The AIADMK government in its previous regime had already decided to release all the seven convicts in the case and is awaiting the nod from the Union Home Secretary,” Stalin observed. “When such a decision was taken to release them, why is the government is hesitant to release a convict on parole? Maharashtra government had released actor Sanjay Dutt on parole. The state can follow that precedent,” Stalin said.
Speaker P Dhanapal suggested that the LoP’s request to the special call attention in this regard was under consideration, and will be taken up later. U Thaniyarasu (Kangeyam) observed that 26 years have passed since Arivu had been lodged in prison. S Karunaas (Tiruvadanai), who rose to register his views, was asked to remain in the seat by the Speaker that their requests in this regard were under consideration.
M Thamimun Ansari (Nagapattinam) joined the duo in thanking Stalin for raising the issue. On Friday, the MLAs, who were elected in AIADMK’s Two leaves symbol couriered the petition from Arivu’s mother Arputhammal to the Leader of the House and School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan, who had assured to consider it.
