Stalin slams govt on NEET notification

Criticising the ruling AIADMK’s handling of the NEET row, mainly in the aftermath of it passing a GO providing 85 per cent reservation for students from state board and 15 per cent for CBSE students, Leader of Opposition MK Stalin sought to know why Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy was silent on the Centre not forwarding Tamil Nadu Assembly’s NEET legislation for Presidential assent.

In a statement issued here, Stalin described the ruling AIADMK’s stand on the issue as ‘ludicrous’ and ‘controversial’ and wondered why the CM had not put “assent to the NEET legislation” as a pre-condition to extending support to the BJP in the  Presidential polls.

The Leader of Opposition further questioned the rationale behind the government apportioning 15 per cent seats to CBSE students when less than 10 per cent had taken NEET tests in the state. Referring to the abysmally poor performance of TN students in NEET, Stalin asked what was the guarantee that the Court would uphold state’s GO pertaining to reserving seats for state board students.

The DMK working president asked the government to accept moral responsibility for the distress the students were going through. Stalin advised the government not to engage in diversionary tactics and instead ensure the conduct of MBBS admissions based on Class 12 marks, which, he remarked, would only be the permanent solution to the issue.
