Speaking at a seminar conducted by the BJP in Chennai, she said that there is a strong perception among the public and traders that prices of essential commodities might rise due to implementation of GST and speculation is still rife that additional tax on many products has been imposed.

“It is not true. You should fully understand that no additional taxes are imposed on products, because such products already come under the tax structure,” she said and thanked the TN government for passing a resolution on GST implementation.

“The Centre is ready to answer questions regarding GST,” she added. Talking to reporters, she said, “There will be no additional tax on rice traders, who sell rice without brand name and trade mark. Likewise, there is no tax for traders who do business less than Rs 20 lakh.”
