It is said, the passers-by on Wednesday morning noticed a half burnt male body lying in a shed in the crematorium allotted for dalits in Manakkarambai village near Thanjavur. They informed the Naducauvery police station.
Police officials, including inspector Sivaraj and sub-inspector Vijaya rushed to the spot. According to them, the age of the body was 45. As its hands and legs were tied tightly with a nylon rope, they suspected some foul play into the death.
Subsequently, police officials informed the Superintendent of Police (SP) J Mahesh. Acting on his instructions, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Tiruvaiyaru) Jayachandran who rushed to the spot, held inquiries. Fingerprint experts too gathered evidence from the spot.
Later, a post-mortem was conducted at the spot by doctors from Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. The Naducauvery police registered a case of murder and investigation is on. As there were tyre marks of a four wheeler near the crematorium where the body was found, police suspect, killers might have murdered the victim somewhere and brought the body to the crematorium in a car. Further investigations are on.
