Congress leader to take DCC issue to Sonia

Trouble has not ended for the newly appointed DCC (district Congress committee) presidents. Grapevine has it that a senior AICC leader from Tamil Nadu has scheduled an appointment with party national vice president Sonia Gandhi next week. High on the agenda during the meeting could be the recent DCC president’s appointments, which are fraught with controversies.

The AICC leader from the state, who had abstained from the district level reorganisation of TNCC, was upset with a few of his lieutenants being shown the door and some districts being bifurcated without purpose by the AICC, which is understood to have acted at the behest of TNCC president Su Thirunavukkarasar.

A Congress source privy to the development revealed to DT Next that the AICC senior, considered the best advocate of the AICC, could disturb the stay of 10 persons at the office of DCC president. He would also apprise the party vice president of shady characters heading DCCs, which also include a former murder accused and alleged red sander smuggler.

Barely a week ago, nearly a dozen ‘sacked’ DCC chiefs owing allegiance to former TNCC chief EVKS Elangovan petitioned Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Ahmed Patel about the alleged questionable credentials of the district Congress heads.

“Unlike the disgruntled DCC chiefs, voice of the AICC senior leader would be loudly heard in Delhi. Also, Rahul will not only give a patient hearing but give serious consideration to his suggestions.

If not all, we can expect at least some change in a few districts, if the leader puts a strong word with Rahul,” said a TNCC senior on anonymity. Winds of fortune have been blowing TNCC chief Thirunavukkarasar’s way since appointment of DCC presidents, more so after Rahul subtly reprimanded mutineers. Rahul had specifically warned functionaries not to badmouth about the state head.

For his part, Thirunavukkarasar has been playing his cards well by publicly warming up to his colleagues and privately getting his demands fulfilled in the national capital, courtesy the AICC in-charge of Tamil Nadu Mukul Wasnik, who has put in his weight behind him.
