Pondy Chief Secretary notifies BJP MLAs’ names

On the day, Chief Secretary Manoj Parida issued a gazette notification re-publishing the order of Union Home Ministry appointing three BJP members as nominated legislators of the Assembly, posters condemning the Lt Governor appeared all over the town.

The notification was issued on the basis of the Home Ministry`s communication received on Monday. The three members appointed as nominated legislators of the Assembly are V Saminathan (president of Puducherry State unit of BJP, KG Shankar (its treasurer) and S Selvaganapthy (an educationist). The Central government has nominated them in keeping with sub section (3) of Section 3 of the Union Territories Act 1963. 

The nominations made the Congress and DMK combine furious. In this back drop, the posters appeared on Tuesday. The posters alleged that the Lt Governor had functioned in favour of the BJP and RSS. However, all the three nominated members came to Raj Nivas and called on the Lt Governor. When asked about the swearing-in, they said that ‘they are prepared and it is up to the government to decide the date and time.’ 

The three persons nominated to the Puducherry Assembly also met Speaker V Vaithilingam and held discussions with him. They expressed their desire to get sworn-in following which Vaithilingam asked them to submit the orders and other relevant documents to the Assembly secretary, following which he will take a decision. 

Pondy bandh on July 8 

Different political parties and organisations here have called for a 12-hour bandh on July 8 to condemn the BJP government at the Centre for nominating three members of the party to the Assembly on the recommendation of the Lt Governor. A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting here on Tuesday evening in which several political parties and organisations took part. Kiran Bedi, who is obeying the orders of BJP bosses should resign and leave Puducherry forthwith, they demanded.
