According to the police, one of the misfired shells from the shooting range at Veeramalaipalayam is alleged to have been brought to the scrap shop by the three army personnel after their training got over.

A senior police officer who was part of the investigation team, said, “A full probe was carried out in Manapparai. All the shells are currently being kept in a godown for explosives.” The police have registered a case of negligence against the scrap shop owner Arulanandham who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The police are also trying to get in touch with the three army personnel. It may be re recalled that on June 29, Maariappan (50) a worker in the scrap shop, attempted to break open a shell of a rocket launcher and had died after it exploded. Three others, including the shop owner, were injured.
