BJP keen on strengthening party in state: Rao

BJP national secretary P Muralidhar Rao on Thursday making his party’s priorities clear said, “Tamil Nadu is important in our expansion plan and the people here are awaiting corruption free politics and good governance.”

Addressing the media in Madurai, he said that he along with BJP functionaries will meet more number of people and develop the party at the booth level. He further said that they will dedicate 15 days completely to start the booth level committees. 

“When I went to visit some of the booths in Madurai, there was good reception and response. I spoke about the successful schemes of the BJP government,” he said. 

“People are connected through social media to Modi Ji and they are happy,” he added. Meanwhile, at a function organised in Tirupparankundram, around 400 people joined the BJP in the presence of Muralidhar Rao and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan. It was announced that the people were from 23 constituencies ranging from Karur in the north to Tenkasi in the south. 

The BJP functionaries claimed that even the youth from Uthapuram village, known for the untouchability wall issue in Madurai district, who were earlier part of the CPM and DYFI, had joined the BJP. Earlier, when asked about the GST affecting small traders, the BJP national secretary said that the GST would not be harmful as the taxation system can be changed. 

“It is flexible,” he said. “BJP government will ensure that the small traders are not affected. After getting the reviews on implementation, the system will be altered according to the needs of the people,” he elaborated.
