V Saminathan, BJP Puducherry unit president, KG Shankar, unit treasurer and S Selvaganapathy, a local educationist, who were appointed as nominated members of the Assembly by the Home Ministry, were sworn-in by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi at Raj Nivas on July 4. Bedi had administered the oath of office hurriedly to them at the Raj Nivas on Tuesday night.
In this backdrop, on Thursday, the three members met Assembly Secretary Vincent Rayer and sought to allot them seats in the Assembly and provide identity cards. Later, Saminathan told newspersons that he was selected as the leader of the BJP legislature party. The three will shortly visit New Delhi to meet Party President Amit Shah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and apprise them of the prevailing political situation in the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK (Amma) faction in Puducherry urged the Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to lead a joint delegation of all party MLAs to meet the Union Home Minister to draw his attention to the ‘undemocratic’ style of functioning of the Lt Governor Kiran Bedi. The party’s legislature wing leader A Anbalagan said induction of three nominated legislators by Bedi “is a clear violation of all democratic norms and conventions.”
