Petitioner Sarasukumar, grandson of Kakkan, had stated that his grandfather, who was also a freedom fighter had studied at the Panchayat Union Primary School at Thumbaipatti and at present there are more than 150 students studying in the school. But, the school lacks basic amenities. “The school building is too old and it has developed cracks. There are no proper roofs for the buildings. The toilets are not maintained properly and there is no water supply, because of which the students avoid taking water,” he said. Hence, he petitioned the court to direct the officials to repair the buildings and provide basic amenities. The high court bench adjourned the case to July 24 after issuing the notices.
