State youth wing leader of PMK, Anbumani Ramadoss, in a statement, said “The Centre has brought some changes in the medical counselling and it will largely affect the students from rural areas. Since Tamil Nadu has a large number of deemed universities, the Centre’s change in the counselling process will pave way for large number of students from other states to study medical courses in the state leaving the rural students in the lurch.”

Stating that the authority to decide medical colleges’ counselling was already handed over to the Centre, Anbumanai said that  “There is a high possibility for the Centre to decide the cost factor for medical courses and it should not happen.” He demanded that the authority to grant deemed’ medical university status should be given to the state government only.
