BE graduate arrested for hacking e-paper

Cybercrime sleuths have arrested a BE graduate from Thoothukudi for hacking the sites of popular news sites to download the e-paper version and making them available on his own website for a cheaper subscription.

The accused Kannan (name changed) was remanded in judicial custody on Saturday. Cops nabbed the man based on the bank account details provided on the website, ‘Magnetetcom’ which has e-versions of many publications in Tamil.

Police also found that the email ID from which the password for subscription received and bank account holder are the same person and traced him to Thoothukudi. 

The arrest was made based on a complaint by P Varadharajan of Kumudham Publications, who had accused ‘Magnetetcom’ of stealing the e-versions of their publications and making money violating copyrights norms. He had also stated that such acts hamper the revenue of the publications. The website too has been blocked.
