Ground water contaminated: Naam Tamilar Katchi study
Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) organised an individual study on the condition of ground water at Kathiramangalam. They found that it was highly contaminated and had oil content too. Founder and Chief Coordinator of the party Seeman urged the government to initiate steps to withdraw the firm from the village.

Seeman, who released the results of the study, said, the party organised a study with help of T Krishna Kumar, an environmental scientist from Thanjavur and collected samples of ground water from Kathiramangalam last week. The results of the study were a shocking revelation.
The pH level of the water from Kathiramangalam is 8. “Though the normal pH condition of the ground water level is 6.5 to 8.5, 8 here is definitely a high value,” Seeman said.
Meanwhile, the turbidity of water level is 50 NTU (Nephlometric Titration Unit) while it is just 1 NTU in normal water. It cannot be used by us, he cautioned. Similarly, the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) present in ground water is 1445 mg/ltre (500 mg/lt is normal level).
Similarly, oil content is 1.75 mg/lt (normal level is 0.5 mg/lt). He claimed that the entire analysis was carried out as per the IS 10500:2012 (Indian Drinking Water Standard IS 10500:2012).
“The study shows that water quality in Kathiramangalam is not fit for human consumption and the government should initiate steps to send away ONGC,” Seeman stressed.
