Based on a tip off, police who were patrolling at Vedhalai beach along the Mandapam coast, stopped an Innova car on suspicion. Immediately, two persons jumped out of the car and fled the scene. When car was  searched, they found 32 large sealed packets. When they broke the seal, they found ganja inside them. They found another large packet nearby.

When it was opened, the police were taken aback to find it full of sea turtles. Police personnel also found two driving licences from the car and it is suspected that they belong to the duo who fled the scene. They were identified as Sudhakar and Vedagiri from Madurai. Police seized the ganja and handed over the sea turtles to the Forest Department. A case has been booked by Mandapam police and they are in search of the duo. Police claimed that the international value of the seized ganja is Rs70 lakh and they were about to be smuggled to Sri Lanka via a mechanised boat.
