The Union Home Ministry had nominated Saminathan (state BJP President), Shankar (Treasurer) and Selvaganapathy (BJP activist) as members of the territorial assembly. Lt Governor Kiran Bedi had administered the oath of office to them at the Rajnivas secretly. However, when the Lt Governor sent the files pertaining to their swearing-in, Speaker V Vaithilingam returned the files to the Raj Nivas, stating that he does not have proper intimation of the nomination of three BJP activists and members to the territorial assembly and hence, could not accept their sweating-in by the Lt Governor.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy also stated that their nomination is not valid. Against this backdrop, maintaining that Narayanasamy and Vaithilignam are mentally ill, the BJP volunteers today performed a special pooja at Manakkula Vinayagar temple here, for their ‘speedy recovery’. They broke 108 coconuts at the temple and worshipped the deity, shouting slogans ‘make them well soon’.
As many as 70 BJP activists participate in the agitation. Meanwhile, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy strongly condemned the burning of the effigies of the Chief Minister and the Speaker here. Talking to newspersons, Kandasamy said three BJP activists were nominated as members to the territorial assembly, violating all norms. In the orders, only their names were mentioned and the name of their father or their addresses were not there.
