It claimed that the SDPI has been spreading derogatory messages against them and wanted the government to declare it as a terrorist organisation and ban it. Director of Women’s Integrated National Development Trust (WIND) A Kamila said, “WIND members were engaged in a survey for her PhD thesis on Perception on ‘Muslim Women Rights’ at Alaudeen Street in Ilaiyangudi on June 29,”.

While they were distributing a questionnaire to women, a group of SDPI members headed by Khalid snatched them away. They confined the NGO workers in a public place and had reportedly assaulted the NGO Director Kamila who rushed to the spot to rescue her co-workers. SDPI  claimed that the NGO has been ‘misguiding’ Muslim women.

However, Kamila said, The objective of the survey was to get information about Muslim women’s awareness on their rights quoted in the Holy Quran. “Since, we were sensitising women about their rights, the SDPI members opposed it,” Kamila explained. Subsequently,  she lodged a complaint with Ilaiyangudi police who filed an FIR but are hesitant to arrest the accused. “We will fight till they are arrested. If needed, we will also approach the court”, said Kamila.
