8 bills moved for Assembly approval
The Tamil Nadu Marine Fishing Regulation (Amendment) Act 2016, which enhanced the territorial waters enjoyed by the traditional fishermen to five nautical miles, from three nautical miles was tabled in the house on Tuesday.

Seven other bills, including the Tamil Nadu Lifts (Amendment), Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders (Amendment), and Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Amendment Acts were also moved in the assembly.
Minister D Jayakumar said the fishing bill was aimed at safeguarding the interests of traditional fishermen taking into consideration all aspects of the industry. As for Tamil Nadu Lifts Act, the state had decided to include escalators in the act as there was no provision for regulation, maintenance and safe working of escalators.
The Transparency in Tenders Act is being amended to incorporate electronic procurement as one of the procurement modes, said Jayakumar while introducing the Bill.
The amendment to Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Act 2016 is done to give effect to the previous GO enhancing the reservation for persons with disabilities to 4 per cent from 3 per cent in line with the Central Act.
