Bail denied for Kathiramangalam protesters
The Principal Sessions Court here on Tuesday, denied bail for the 10 Kathiramangalam protesters in the case filed by the ONGC for damaging pipes and preventing the officials to discharge their duties.

While the bail plea that was heard recently against the case filed by the state government had been rejected, another case filed by the ONGC on July 1 for the loss incurred by them due to damage of pipes and also for preventing their staff to discharge their duties to plug the leakage reportedly caused by the protesters. And they appealed for a bail on July 14 which came before the Principal Sessions Court on Tuesday and the judge AA Nakkeeran who heard the bail plea rejected it.
Meanwhile, two persons including an ex-village panchayat president were on an indefinite fast demanding release of the ten protesters. On Monday, the villagers sat through the night reiterating their demand of freeing all the ten persons arrested for protest, declaring the Cauvery delta districts as protected agriculture zone and cessation of ONGC operations in the Cauvery delta districts.
Representatives from villages of Mullangudi, Aralur, Velur, Maharajapuram, Vettamangalam Tirukkodikaval, Kanjanur joined them. DMK union secretaries G Ravichandran, K Annadurai, PMK’s farmer’s wing state secretary G Aalayamani joined the protesters on Tuesday.
Police posts have been set up at Tirukkodikaval, Sivaramapuram, Kunathalaippadi, Kodiayalam and all the vehicles, including tourist buses, were checked for student protesters heading for Kathiramangalam.
