India is a democratic country and anyone can enter politics. Similarly, actors too can enter politics and the AIADMK is not opposed to it, said state Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju in Madurai on Thursday.

Raju, along with Corporation Commissioner Aneesh Sekhar, inspected the wards 90 and 91 in his constituency of Madurai West. During his visit, people thronged to meet Raju and registered their grievances. They informed him that water supply was not regular and sewage water mixed with drinking water.
After hearing their grievances, Raju promised that their problems would be addressed in a phased manner. Later, he addressed the media.
When asked about actor Kamal Haasan and his recent interests in entering politics, he replied that he had great respect for Kamal and he is one of the greatest actors worldwide. “But, his recent allegations on the government were baseless as he had not specified any department or ministry.
Let Kamal come out with specific ministries, even if it is my own Cooperation Ministry and then let him enter politics,” Raju added. He also said that the AIADMK is not against actors entering politics and in a democratic country anyone can enter politics.
Former chief ministers MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa were actors and they were preferred by the people. The people had so far not preferred any actor to rule them. We have to wait and see whether the people would accept Kamal as their leader, said Raju. Meanwhile, Finance Minister D Jayakumar and Handlooms Minister OS Manian joined the fray against the actor. Jayakumar wondered whether Kamal was acting like the mouthpiece of someone.
“I want to know why the actor, who commented on corruption in the state, has now become quiet and he could have very well gone to the court on this issue,” he said. Jayakumar further said that the government was ready to face any charge of the actor.
“Kamal is instigating his fans, the actor’s dignity is now in question as he had addressed the ministers in singular over this issue,” Jayakumar added. For his part, Handloom Minister OS Manian asked whether the actor was looking up to politics as his chances in cinema industry were coming down. He asked Kamal to remember that the people did not support thespian Sivaji Ganesan when he entered politics.
Fans from Tiruchy urge Kamal to take the big plunge
The fans of actor Kamal Haasan sent e-post to the actor on Thursday urging him to enter active politics. The members of the actor’s Tiruchy fans club gathered at the head post office and started raising slogans in support of the actor and demanded him to take a plunge into active politics. They claimed that he is the only eligible person to lead the state. Subsequently, they sent e-letters to the actor pressing their demands. Meanwhile, BJP national secretary H Raja, speaking in Pudukkottai, took a dig at Kamal for stating that he would go out of the country when he faced problems in releasing his film Viswaroopam earlier and for his threat to quit cinema if GST was implemented for the industry. “An eligible person should take steps to solve the issue, but he (Kamal) wants to run away from the country. How can he solve the problems in politics? There is a lot of difference between just making comments on politics and working on the ground,” Raja said and added that Kamal has no guts to enter politics. At the same time, Raja praised actor Rajnikanth, who never criticised Hinduism.
