The department has till date registered details of 6.10 crore consumers, while another 1.86 crore users have registered their mobile numbers. The 1.96 crore ration cards in existence benefit a total of 6.76 crore family members, officials said in a release.

The Rs 320 crore scheme to convert booklet type ration cards into smart cards covered nearly one crore consumers till date, but the present move is due to the department receiving feedback that many were yet to get their smart cards despite completing all mandated formalities.

Such beneficiaries should enter the government website www.tnpds.gov.in by logging in using their registered mobile number. They should then move to the area which deals with corrections of issued details and verify the correctness of all the details and photos in both English and Tamil, it added. Any change should be made if necessary and only then will their smart card be printed, it added.

Stating that the TNEPDS mobile phone app can be used for this purpose, the release added that the e-seva centres could also help. Consumers can approach the PDS sales staff too to ensure corrections, if any.
