8 fishermen from Nagapattinam held by SL Navy
Eight Nagapattinam fishermen have been apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel in the mid sea about 42 nautical miles off Kodiyakkarai shores in the South East on Friday, on charges of crossing the IMBL.

According to sources, a group of eight fishers of Ariyanattu Street Fisher folk in Nagapattinam had taken a mechanised boat from Akkaraippettai fishing harbour on July 16 and they were scheduled to return on Saturday. However, it is said, while they were fishing 42 nautical miles off Kodiyakkarai coast, they were intercepted by a team of SL navy personnel on Friday and arrested subsequently for reportedly crossing IMBL. Following that all the eight TN fishers have been taken to Kangesanthurai fishing harbour, said top officials with the district fisheries department.
CM writes to Modi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged him to use all available diplomatic channels to find a permanent solution to the long-standing issue of TN fishermen being arrested by Lankan navy personnel.
