DGP holds maiden grievances meet in Madurai

The protests by family members of policemen in Chennai and cropping up of posters stating various demands of the men in uniform across the state have made the state to take notice of the need to reduce the work pressure of the cops. The government had directed the DGP to address the issues of policemen and to ensure smooth functioning in future.  

Following the direction, the DGP visited Madurai and held a meeting at the Commissioner office. He received petitions from police personnel, mostly in the rank of constables and assured them of action. 

Many senior police officials were present at the grievance redressal meeting. While addressing media persons, the DGP said, “In all 923 petitions were received from the policemen. Most of them relate to transfers to their native place. The petitions will be scrutinized on a priority basis.” 

The DGP further said, “I will be directly addressing most of them. Some of the petitions will be dealt with by the SPs, DIGs and IGs.” Rajendran said that the important reason behind his personal intervention in the grievance meeting is to ensure that the petitions of policemen are addressed expeditiously and a tab kept on them.  

The DGP announced that in the next four months, similar meetings will be conducted in the remaining four zones and the grievances of policemen will be redressed properly.
