88 cusecs of water released from Kelavarapalli dam
Shutters of the Kelavarapalli dam near Hosur in Krishnagiri district were opened for irrigation on Sunday. Animal Husbandry Minister P Balakrishna Reddy released 88 cusecs of water along with District Collector C Kathiravan in the presence of farmers.

The recent rain in the catchment areas of the dam, facilitated an increase in the water level in it. Officials said that the dam across Ponnaiyar river that is 44.28 feet tall with a capacity of 831.5 Mcft has water for nearly 42.8 feet.
Balakrishna Reddy explained to the assembled farmers that the quantity of water released from the dam will be increased or decreased based on the rains in the ayacut areas. PWD officials said this will benefit 8, 000 acres of land under cultivation.
It includes 5,918 acres that will be irrigated through the left canal that runs up to Sollagiri village covering a distance of 25.5 km and 2,082 acres that will be irrigated by the 22 km long right canal that runs till Thorapalli village. PWD officials said that water will be released in both the canals for the first 10 days.
Thereafter, it will be released only on alternate days. Farmers of Boodinatham, Bethamuthali, Muthali, Attur, Kadirepalli, Marachandiram, Kothur, Moranapalli, Thorapalli, Thrichipalli, Kamanthotti, Thinnur, Subagiri, Koneripalli, Chinnakollu, Bethakollu, Samanapalli, Chennathur, Attakurikki, Nallakanakothapalli and Marthandapalli panchayats will benefit from the water released from the dam.
