Ahead of PM visit, Pakistan man held at Rameswaram

Security agencies at Rameswaram have upped their vigil following the arrest of a Pakistani national without a passport at Ervadi on Sunday. The police said that he is a smuggler.

The arrest comes ahead of Modi’s visit to Rameswaram to inaugurate Kalam’s memorial on July 27. The man, identified as Mohammed Younus, from Karachi, was caught during routine patrolling. During interrogation, Younus confessed to smuggling narcotics to Sri Lanka and Pakistan from India. He had travelled to Sri Lanka from Karachi and had reached Pudukkottai district in a fishing boat. He was about to flee to Sri Lanka in a fishing boat but was caught. He was remanded in judicial custody. A search is on for two others who supplied Younus with the drugs.
