He also made arrangements for the Aavin booth to sell Amma water bottles, after he found that there were no water facilities near one of the waiting areas.
After seeing some news reports on the lack of facilities, some of the parents were worried about the arrangements. “We were not sure if all the facilities were in place, but everything went smooth. There was water in plenty and they had erected a shamiana for parents to wait,” says S Raghavan, a parent. He added that arrangements were made for the parents and students who came from other towns and cities. Clear signage were in place for the benefit of parents, students and others.
Various banks had erected stalls at a convenient and accessible spot. “We had to fast-forward the entire process, as the dates were announced much later, compared to other years. Usually the vocational counselling happens after the academic counselling and we underestimated the crowd on July 17,” said a TNEA official.
Most of the students who attended day one of general counselling on Sunday got the departments and the colleges of their choice. “I already like the campus and I am excited to spend four years of my life here,” said Nithish KM, a student.
