SPG team scans Rameswaram for Modi visit
A team of around 25 cops attached to Special Protection Group (SPG), the armed force which provides security for Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, carried out an inspection at the memorial of former President, APJ Abdul Kalam, at Peikarumbu near Rameswaram and in Mandapam where the PM is scheduled to address the public.

On the second anniversary of Kalam, Modi is expected to inaugurate the Kalam memorial and to inaugurate a slew of projects and schemes. He is also expected to address the public at Coast Guard Quarters at Mandapam.
Prior to the visit of Modi, his security team from SPG led by DIG, Sharma, inspected the place where the stage program had been scheduled and also the memorial. Though close to 25 members arrived at Rameswaram only four of them carried out inspection at the memorial.
Initially, they checked the helipad at Mandapam and then the entire route that leads to the memorial to check for any lacunae. Later, they inspected the memorial and then the hall where the paintings and photos of Kalam are kept.
As Modi is expected to see all the displayed images and paintings, the SPG team paid a close attention to the security in the hall. Similarly, they went to the Coast Guard quarters where the stage program for Modi had been planned and carried out proper inspection.
The team also chalked out the plans to set up stage at Kalam memorial for the family of Kalam. As per the plan, the stage would be set up exactly opposite Kalam memorial. The inspection was carried out for close to three hours.
Earlier, the SPG team held a meeting with the officials of all the departments at Peikarumbu. The SPG team will carry out mock drills at the memorial and at Mandapam from Tuesday.
Kalam’s wax statue sent to Rameswaram from Jaipur
The wax statue of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, to be installed at the Knowledge Centre in Rameswaram, has been sent from Jaipur Wax Museum, authorities said on Monday. Founder-director of Jaipur Wax Museum, Anoop Srivastava said the wax statue was gifted following a request from his family members. The statue, completed in three months, weighs 45 kilograms. Twenty-five kilograms of wax was used in the production of the statue that was built by sculptor Sushanta Ray and his team. Kalam, the 11th President of India, from 2002 to 2007 was born and raised in Rameswaram and upon his demise, was buried there with full state honours.
