Iran students seek course fee back after NEET issue
Ten students from Iran, including four girls, sought the intervention of the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Coimbatore district to help them get back the fees (Rs 2 crore) they had paid to a private dental college near Sulur last year. All of them said that they are unable to pursue their course as they did not take up NEET.

In a written complaint to the SP, Hamidreza Zare, one of the students, claimed that 10 Iranian nationals had enrolled for the five-year Bachelor of Dental Studies (BDS) course in the institution in 2016-17.
The college had demanded admission fees along with the full fees – till completion in 2021. Trouble began when students received mails on November 28 that they were discharged from the course. On inquiring, they came to know that it was because they had not taken up NEET. Last year only Tamil Nadu students were exempted from it.
“When we asked the college management about it, they said it will all be sorted out within two months,” said Hamidreza Zare. Though they could not take up the exams, they attended classes for the next few months. Students claimed that the administrative officer assured to refund their fees, so that they could enrol elsewhere. But, the management is delaying the process.
Alleging that the college is trying to misappropriate funds, they alleged that some are forced to leave without money or with meagre refunds. Police said they would conduct an inquiry with the college management and take further action.
