NEET: Centre’s ‘positive word’ to Tamil Nadu
The union government on Monday promised to consider positively TN’s demand seeking exemption from NEET, the battery of state Ministers, who had gone to the capital in this connection, said after a series of meetings they had with union ministers over the pending Presidential assent for two Bills passed by the State.

The delegation, led by party senior leader and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, comprising Finance Minister D Jayakumar, Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani, Electricity Minister P Thangamani, Law Minister C Ve Shanmugham, Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan, and Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar met Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his residence and apprised him of the need to exempt state from the NEET considering its effect on state board students.
The delegation first met the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, who accompanied them during the meeting with Rajnath Singh.
“We will positively consider the request from Tamil Nadu”, the Home Minister was quoted as saying, said an official release from the State Secretariat.The delegation also met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who promised that he would talk to the Health Minister JP Nadda on the need to exempt TN from NEET.
During the day, AIADMK (PTA) leader and former CM O Panneerselvam also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday and urged him to take steps to exempt the state from NEET. Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Palaniswami who is slated to participate in the swearing in ceremony of Ramnath Kovind will also raise the issue of according exemption to state from NEET.
